Ehwaz and Body Trust
Right.
We are in Ehwaz season now. This is an energy of collaboration and coming together. Of working for a common goal, and trusting those whom have earned it. And not trusting those who have not.
This runic energy is potent for this time, as it comes as the world begins to wake up and become more vital. The days grow longer and the darkness retreats, inch by inch. Admittedly in the far frozen north, there is still four feet of snow, but life is returning.
In the UK lambing happening, baby sheep are everywhere in the south, and some of the more stubborn/hardy breads up north are beginning to lamb too. Now is the time, as people when ancestrally we would have to work together to bring the new life into the world, baby sheep, goats and cows need nurturing and keeping safe from the teeth of the fox and the wolf, and the teeth of the north wind.
What I’ve noticed with lots of spiritually aware people around me is that they are finding this time of year quite hard and taxing. And while its nice to try and do the spiritual things that we are sold or told will make us better. Like the crystals, rune readings and buring expensive incense. While this stuff does help. There is an important realisation that we are spiritual beings living a human existence.
So the first stage of any spiritual event, that, to be totally honest starts with feeling like death warmed up, is to look after the basic needs of your human experience.
1. Control your breath, seven – eleven breath works best.
2. Hydrate
3. Eat Nutritious Food
4. Get yourself somewhere safe and warm
5. Make sure you poop and pee. (And proper poop, not too hard or too soft, and proper pee, not too dark, straw colour at the darkest).
6. Get proper rest and sleep.
Then look to the more esoteric aspects of life.
It feels a little crude, and it is. I learned when I was nursing that people go wrong in so many ways, but, making sure you are hitting your base needs mitigates huge amounts of the rubbish sensations we experience.
When we get physically sick we tend to stop eating and drinking properly, and its hard when you feel like death. When we don’t eat or drink, we don’t poop and pee. And all this makes the anxiety of feeling like death worse, and our bodies go into panic mode, making anxiety worse by dumping loads of stress hormones.
We can convince ourselves this is a spiritual event, but unless we are taking in good stuff and letting out the waste we can’t tell the difference between our bodies going ‘aaaaahhhhh!’ and our spirits going ‘aaaahhhhh!’.
Both needing very different treatments.
The first, the physical needs nutrition and rest.
The second the spiritual, need the first to be addressed, and then we can do the meditation and the connectivity magic. It’s no good, and even dangerous to embark on a spiritual journey if your body is not prepared, or even worse sick.
So this lesson is about checking in on yourself. To make sure that you are good before doing something.
So, part one is check in on your body with the 1-6 above.
The second is a body check in that I use allllllll the time. Especially when I’m not sure mentally.
What is good to know is that our bodies are super tough, designed over millennia to survive and flourish in the harshest environments. Even though I do like my comfort, and chips.
Our bodies know what they need, and our minds often get in the way. So this is a technique that helps us to connect to our bodies.
What we do is stand, stable feet just over hip width apart, and knees bend.
Rock your weight onto the balls of your feet so you are unbalanced, or just about to fall back or forward.
Then, close your eyes and ask your body to ‘Please show your yes’ say it out loud, and then note what your body does. Mine falls forward.
Then, reset, and ‘Please show me your no’ out loud, and note what your body does. Mine falls backwards.
Reset.
Now ask a binary question, ‘do I want chicken sandwich for lunch’ and see where your body goes.
You don’t have to just ask about lunch.
Any binary yes or no question works.
So that is your homework for this period, practice tapping into your body’s energies and wisdom, to build trust into your experience of the world.
And drink some water you dehydrated husk you.
Power days:
It’s the Spring equinox. The date is officially mathematically the 20th of March this year, but the sun still behaves the same for a few days either side of it.
Here are some Viking holidays for the next week:
The Thursdays of Thor (Jupiter): The first, Second and Third Thursdays of March. These days celebrate Thor (Jupiter) ushering in spring, shown as a fecund ladies. The traditional celebration involves lots of sex. And beer. Have fun.
The day of the spring Lady: 25th of March. This is a day that Pagan Nordics who were being converted to Christianity thought was the most powerful day. It was the day that Mary had Sex with God. It is also the day where the ladies of spring are ushered in. Celebrate this day by planting some seeds and feeding them with some beer. Say ‘Hail to you field the people’s mother, be thou growing in the embrace of the Goddess, food-filled for the people to enjoy’. Place some bread in the soil and let the seeds sprout. There is Ingwaz energy here for you use this power day to unlock the hidden hero within you.
Thor (Jupiter) Beer Day: 27th of March Today is the day to brew some beer or mead. It brings the spirit of the earth, of Jord into the sky, by soaking grain in rainwater. The rain awakens the intoxicating essence of the drink that comes from the earth. Othala energy is here for you to bring homily vibes to your brew.
And here is you workbook!
Big love
